Flashback: Monochromatic Texture

Long time no see! Once I was finished with midterms, my work load slowly began to pile up again. So today, I bring you a short flashback post of an outfit that was also from my final styling project a few months back. I love this Madewell top, and have worn it loads since I bought it last year. I purchased the tweed-looking blazer while in London, and it's made out of such a soft sweater material. The Zara skort has appeared on my blog before, and the Juicy Couture purse actually belongs to my friend, Teryn. I bought the same bag in black, and we traded purses a while back temporarily...sort of like a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants kind of deal, haha :)

The Boyfriend Says HI

First things first, the boyfriend in question here is my pair of Topshop boyfriend jeans...ahahah enjoy the slight (-ly lame) play on words? Anyways, this is an outfit from about a month ago that I haven't gotten around to posting. After a long series of wearing very girly outfits, I enjoy embracing quite the opposite and like to switch things up. I love the aesthetic of mixing feminine and masculine details since the result is something effortlessly cool. Pairing a muscle tank with some boyfriend jeans, Birkenstocks, and a bit of minimalistic/dainty jewelry was a refreshing change from the skirts and dresses that have often been my go-to.

Since discovering boyfriend jeans, I've realized that they are SO much comfier than skinny jeans. I love that they're a bit loose and slouchy. This interesting distressed details on this Topshop pair caught my eye, and I've loved wearing them ever since I got them.

Spotlight: Windram Design

Today I have a very special post for you all! I was contacted by the lovely Helen Windram of Windram Design a few weeks ago, and was asked if I was interested in a collaboration. I was so surprised and excited to have been asked, and I happily replied yes! Helen's Instagram is filled with shots of her handmade and classic designs, and I love her minimalistic aesthetic.

Helen is a UK-based designer and started Windram Design out of her love for creating new things. Her philosophy is that every individual is unique and special, and that this should be reflected in the clothing that they wear. All of her pieces are limited edition or one-of-a-kind since she does not copy patterns or create custom orders. Helen strives to run an eco-friendly business too, re-purposing vintage fabrics and running her sewing machines on solar power to reduce environmental impact. Expanding on her fashion ideology, she remarked that she'd like to see people "buy less and buy better" when it comes to investing in their wardrobe. Windram Design aims to create one-off clothing and accessories that are classic, well-made, and easy to transition between seasons.

I received a parcel in the mail that was wrapped with care (it was almost too cute for me to open!) and tied with strips of fabric. I was very excited to see what Helen had selected for me after seeing her daily Instagram posts of her various pieces. Enclosed in the adorable package was a nice handwritten note, a canvas tote bag made from a sturdy fabric, an airy white kimono with tiny white polka dots, and a beautifully tailored top with cream lace accents.

In my first outfit, I went for a slightly more "urban" structured look to provide contrast to the lightweight and delicate kimono. I really like the subtle polka dot pattern on the kimono, as it adds a nice touch of detail to make this classic piece a bit different. My second outfit was definitely more boho and laidback, and I thought this colorful patterned skirt would help the white lace top stand out. The unique neckline of the top, curved bottom hem, and lace detail made this piece my absolute favorite, as its a style that's right up my street! Both pieces are wonderful unique additions to my wardrobe, and are high-quality classics with a slight twist.

Flashback: Texture and Pattern Play

While I was in London, I had a fantastic opportunity to take a Styling and Journalism class taught by Johanna Payton of The Fashion Detective. Hello Jo from across the pond (cries) if you ever see this! :) This was by far my FAVORITE class I took while I was abroad, though I did enjoy my other classes too! I actually had to be quite persistent to get into the class in the first place since I didn't come in as a journalism major, so I was very happy that I was able to join. 

Anyways, for our final project of the module, we had to come up with a summer trend that would be the inspiration for three looks. We then had to design a magazine spread and write an article about the trend. I ended up doing my project on texture and pattern mixing, since I had been really into mixing patterns and a bit of carefully crafted clashing (and I still am!). This was the first outfit that I styled, and I was pretty proud of it! *Side note: You may notice slight "moodiness" in some of these pictures from my project...haha oh how I tried! 

I love this knit top from Monki so much, it's so comfortable and soft. I bought the top at the same time as the printed trousers. I tried them on together and actually ended up liking the combination, which probably sparked the inspiration for my project. Wearing these trousers makes me feel like I'm wearing PJs (in a good way though!), and I love it. I had never worn trousers like these before, but this pair has definitely sparked a new love for this style of pant (since I've been home, I've added another pair of printed trousers to my collection, hehe). I added my go-to Topshop sandals and boxy woven bag from Primark to complete the look, and as usual kept things minimal on the accessory front.

PC goes to my friend Jackie, who took a lot of my earlier OOTDs back in London. Definitely missing our lovely and relaxing walks as I sit here taking a bit of a break from studying biochem, ahhhhh! Keep me in your thoughts everyone...hahah just kidding (but not really :p ).

Summertime Fine

Ah okay, so I missed posting this on Sunday by a few hours...merp sorry about that! Today's outfit is a casual summery outfit that Natalie kindly helped shoot for me. We were hanging out and having some fun with the new camera, and found some pretty cool settings for this OOTD (the tree was probably my favorite of the day, haha!). We were also melting because the weather has yet to cool down lately. I love the mixture of stripes and floral, and I was in the mood for putting together a light outfit with this combo.

A DIY Attempt

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, school has started and I'm already feeling slightly overwhelmed with the amount of work I have to do. Sadly, this probably means I'll be posting less frequently…but I want to try and have at least one blog post a week up so we'll see how that goes! Since my last post, I purchased my first DSLR camera (ahhh!) since my other camera is a bit broken. I've been interested in learning more about photography, and I'd also like my blog picture quality to be nicer. Ever since I posted the pictures Jeremy took for my last two DADJ posts, I have not been able to look at my pictures taken with my old camera in the same way…haha. I figured if there was a time to get a new camera, it'd be now, and after debating for about a month I decided on getting the Canon Rebel T3i (a HUGE thank you to my parents for the early birthday present). I'm still learning how to adjust the various settings, so bear with me as I work on my photography skills!

This DIY attempt was from a few weeks ago, when a few of my friends and I decided to have a jewelry-making hangout. I searched through Pinterest for some ideas, and decided to try making some wire rings. I tried looking for the specific pins that I got inspiration from, but couldn't find the exact ones. Just type in "DIY ring" into Pinterest and I'm sure you'll find 'em!

When I first found the bow design I knew I wanted to try it (it was actually kind of trickier than I thought it would be to make a nice bow…lol guess it just takes some practice), and I also wanted to try this midi ring style (with a slight variation on the design by using some Swarovski crystal beads). The midi ring ended up being my favorite! It was very easy to make for a jewelry-making newbie like myself, and I like that it's adjustable. Want to know why I ended up choosing this color assortment of beads? Well, it's because when I saw them at the store…they instantly reminded me of Frozen...haha! Anyways, since I still have a lot of wire left, next time I have spare time I may try out more DIY designs and report back.

Dress a Day in July: The Thirty-first (The End!)

It's finally here…day 31 of DADJ!! *gasp* I know it isn't July anymore, but thank goodness I was able to finish this up within the first bit of August. I couldn't have done it without the help of my friends/family, who gave up some of their time to help me take pictures (thank you so much to each of you, it was much appreciated!). It's been fun sorting through my wardrobe and picking dresses to wear in this very appropriate summer weather. But, I'm happy to be able to wear any clothes that suit my mood from now on (or until I decide to do some kind of themed posts in the future).

Anyways...I wanted to end DADJ on a bit of a "fancy" note, and so I decided one of my very favorite floral dresses (that I haven't really had many occasions to wear out) would be perfect. I love the color palette and cut of this dress, especially the back neckline (of course!). I paired the dress with my simple black sandals from Target, which have nice details but don't distract from the dress. Picture credit again goes to Jeremy, who also edited my pictures for today and day 30 (THANK YOU AGAIN JEREMY! This is exactly how I want my blog to be like from now on, and I'm happy to have ended DADJ with a "bang" :) ).
